Discover a great fall drive through the rolling hills of Caledon.
Start your trip on the 410 north through Brampton. The 410 ends at Heart Lake Road and is the beginning of your back-road adventure! Continue north along Heart Lake Road past Mayfield Road until the T-intersection at Olde Baseline Road. But don’t speed, because you’ll want to plan pit stops at two of Caledon’s best farm fresh markets: Broadway Farms and Downey’s Farm, both located on Heart Lake Road.At Olde Baseline Road turn left. To the north in the distance you will capture views of the Niagara Escarpment as it meanders through Caledon. Cross Highway 10 and continue east to the Headwaters of the Credit River and the charming hamlet of Inglewood. After a refreshment break in Inglewood, continue west on Olde Baseline Road into the rolling hills of the Cheltenham Badlands! At Mississauga Road turn right and head north to the lovely village of Belfountain.
From Belfountain head west on Bush St. and continue to the T-intersection. Turn right (north) at the intersection which will bring you into the historic Village of Erin. Stretch your legs with a stroll down the village street or make a quick stop for a fresh made donut at Holtom’s Bakery. Continue your ride north through the Village. Main Street will quickly become Hwy 124 and bend to the east taking you toward Caledon Village. Just before the Village, at the intersection of Hwy 124 turn and Hwy 136 it’s your choice, head north on Hwy 136 to the Village of Alton and an overnight stay at the Millcroft Inn & Spa or continue east to Caledon Village where you can step back in time at Country Charm Mennonite Furniture or grab a bite to eat at the Caledon Village Bistro.
From Caledon Village, take Hwy 10 south. As you begin to descend the ‘Caledon Mountain’ look for the Escarpment Sideroad on your left and get ready for a spectacular drive along the top of the Niagara Escarpment offering great views of Toronto and the CN Tower. Continue east along Escarpment Sideroad to Airport Road. Turn right (south) on Airport Road which takes you back to the city’s boundaries with plenty of options for the return journey home. One last stop in Caledon East is highly recommended. Keep your eyes peeled for local gourmet delights, Gourmandissimo, and Howard the Butcher, both great stops for picking up eats to enjoy at home.
